Connect using hyperterminal, use the USB - serial from the laptop and connect the white cable to that.

  1. Connect to the console port using terminal emulation parameters (typically 38400, 8, 0, 1, None)
  2. Reboot switch (Remove power)
  3. Hold down Ctrl U while rebooting a Menu will be displayed
  4. Select> [D] Delete file
  5. Type startup-config (be sure that this is the ONLY file that you delete – if you delete other files, you will have to reload the firmware)
  6. Now, you have erased the configuration file and you should be able to reboot and login with the default username and password.

In the admin menu, then change the IP address of the device (standard 192.168.1.254) to a useable address.

Then log in using the web interface. Make sure to update the firmware to v1.2.9 using the Admin -> http update in the web interface. File:SRW2024P image v1290.bix Use Google Chrome, it tells you how far the upload is. It takes a while, so wait!

After the update, log in with CTRL-U and delete the startup-config and startupX.cfg files. Reboot. Remember, things are slow, so wait for the switch to get back to you!

Should shit fuck up with the update (from manual page 127 File:SRW2024P User Guide.pdf):

  1. Check that the switch has sufficient flash memory space for the new code file before starting the download. You can store a maximum of only two runtime and two diagnostic code files in the switch’s flash memory. Use the [D]elete File command to remove a runtime or diagnostic file.
  2. Press X to start to download the new code file. If using Windows HyperTerminal, click the Transfer button, and then click Send File. Select the XModem Protocol and then use the Browse button to select the required firmware code file from your PC system. The Xmodem file send window displays the progress of the download procedure. Note: The download file must be a valid binary software file from Linksys for the target switch.
  3. After the file has been downloaded, you are prompted with Update Image File: to specify the type of code file. Press R for runtime code, D for diagnostic code, or, L for loader code. Caution: If you select <L> for loader code, be sure the file is a valid loader code file for the switch. If you download an invalid file, the switch will not be able to boot. Unless absolutely necessary, do not attempt to download loader code files. Press Send and the software is downloaded.
  4. Specify a name for the downloaded code file. It should be called "SRW2024P_image.bix". File names are case-sensitive, should be from 1 to 31 characters, not contain slashes (\ or /), and the leading letter of the file name should not be a period (.). (Valid haracters: A-Z, a-z, 0-9, “.”, “-”, “_”)
  5. To set the new downloaded file as the startup file, use the [S]et Startup File menu option.
  6. Press Q to quit the firmware-download mode and boot the switch. After quitting, the device reboots automatically
