Set different username from email address

Outlook 2019 doesn't allow you to easily set a different username from your email address.

Either open Control Panel and start Mail (outlook) applet

or the solution is here, which is to run

  outlook.exe /manageprofiles

I found outlook.exe in

  C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office\root\Office16

Server settings

More settings

Outgoing Server tab: My Outgoing Server requires authentication on

Advanced tab:

Incoming:

Security type: STARTTLS Port: 143

Outgoing:

Hostname: mail.edgarbv.com Security Type: STARTTLS Port: 587

Moving the OST file

The regedit system doesn't seem to work. The symlink does, but might need a few outlook restarts before it takes. Its a mess.

This is done using a symbolic link. Move the ost file to the new location, open an elevated command prompt and:

  mklink "C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Outlook\robin@edgarbv.com.ost" "G:\Outlook\robin@edgarbv.com.ost"

This will create a .symlink file in the old location.

Working with Google Calendars

Read only / iCal

In Google Calendar, click the 3 dots next to the calendar name on the left and open Settings. Scroll down to Integrate Calendar and find the Secret address in iCal format. Copy this and go to Outlook calendars. Right click on the text "My Calendars" and select Add calendar -> From Internet. Paste the address.

Synchronise

Using a published outlook calendar as an ical is only read only and also the update can take very very long (>24h)

Gsyncit

Gsyncit v5 per PC license but can sync multiple PCs with one calendar:

How to sync multiple computers running Outlook with the same service synced using gSyncit. Note - set one PC as main from outlook to gmail and the rest as gmail to pc main otherwise you run into a world of pain

syncing attendees By default gSyncit will not sync the attendee list if the Google account is not listed as an attendee on the Outlook event. You can override this behavior using the option to allow the Google account to impersonate the Outlook account (under the other tab) which allows the sync to assume your Google account is on the attendee list.

Create an empty / new calendar in outlook in folder view, fill in the google account, select the google calendar and then the local calendar to sync to.

On the laptop in sync options set Google Calendar as primary calendar, check sync appointment organiser and attendees, in Other check sync google html formatting + allow outlook to send meeting responses, in attachments click sync attachments

alternatives

Outlook <-> Google Calendar Sync is free but requires you to donate GBP 10 to get rid of the splash screen and another screen.
