NB.

Surveillance software

The Synology Surveillance Station 7.2 doesn't work very well. It picks up the image for the thumbnails from my onvif camera but then doesn't show the imagery in the live views.

Linux has Zoneminder So need to try this

You need the following:

  • Pan / Tilt / Zoom (PTZ)
  • IR (infrared)
  • HD resolution
  • Audio in / out (to act as an intercom)
  • Waterproofing
  • WiFi

So In the end I got the SunEyes SP-P701EWPT Outdoor 720P HD Pan / Tilt IP Camera - White (EU).

It turns out that this camera doesn't have FTP support working :(

gadgetvictims has a long and useful post about it, including how to log in using telnet (port 23) user root pass cat1029

it turns out that it's a hi3518 chipset

cat proc/cpuinfo

Processor       : ARM926EJ-S rev 5 (v5l)
BogoMIPS        : 218.72

There are two posts on how to play around with the firmware without bricking it: [2] and [3]

I was able to update the firmware using the 3500 download link on this page. After the update I had to set everything up again (including wifi, so from the network cable).

Now it is

Hardware Version: 3500-ov9712a
Software Ver: V3.5.5.3116-S50-TSC-B20161108A

Didn't help with the FTP settings though, which I can't get working...

Debugging Onvif

In Windows you do this with the Onvif device manager

You can try onvif device tool for linux
